Wachovia Center trial event 11-22-09

Postby evo8dad » Thu Nov 05, 2009 5:34 pm

I have been in discussions with Comcast Spectacor for possible use of Lot D at the Wachovia Center:

Image

They seem very receptive to the idea, however, would like for us to do a trial event much like we did with the Phillies last year.

The dimensions of the lot are 1,286 feet length by 450 feet width, very big. In comparison CBP is 740 ft wide 830 ft in length but, with a decent amount of lightpoles and medians. Warminster is 200 feet wide by 1700 feet in length. Basically its twice as wide as Warminster and nearly as long

The issue is that the trial event would be on November 22nd, 2009, literally two weeks away. The reason for this post is to gauge the interest of our competitors to the idea of running a trial event on the 22nd. We would need a good showing to be able to put on an event on the 22nd and with it being just around the corner we'd rather gauge the interest from you guys/girls rather than schedule the event and hope for the best regarding turnout.

So please vote above and voice your thoughts/interest. Please also pass the word around in the Solo community. This lot is HUGE and could be a great addition to the region

that seems like a GREAT lot. and from what i remember, far fewer light poles than CBP. would we have the entire lot for the course (i.e., grid/paddock in another lot)?

awesome (potential) news, Adam. you rock.

Thanks Mike!! I'm stoked about this lot and your right there are barely any poles in the lot; its virtually WIDE open

Lot D would be just used for the course. Grid and Paddock would be to the right side of the Wachovia Center.

This would be the best lot we would have (so far) IMHO. I'm in. It's more usable than CBP because there's less curbing and way fewer poles.

Guys,

Two questions:
1) would the cost for the event be similar to our other events?
2) would it count for the summer series points?

John-

i don't think it would count for points. our trial event at CBP last year was not a points event. but that's just my guess; i have no responsibilities here whatsoever.

John -

Cost would be the same as CBP and no this would NOT be a points event. This would be consider a trial event with Comcast Spectacor. That being said we obviously want to put our best foot forward with a large showing of competitors

The trial event at CBP event last year was a blast and I think those that attended would agree. It was a very relaxed atmosphere since it was not point event and the excitement was high being that it was a new venue and the possibilities it would hold for this season. You could also use the event as a end of the year test and tune to get a jump start on the 2010 season

would there be a cap? i know we capped the CBP event at a pretty low number to make sure things stayed manageable.

did you post on sccaforums, NASIOC, or any of the other region's boards? i bet we could get a good number of folks up from DC.

HAHA!! Thanks Mike - and you better believe I drink, just not that often any more (I'll gladly accept a 6er of Sam Adams seasonal thank you very much :toast: ).

A cap may be a good way to get people to pre-register, which would make the day of a lot easier. I'd like to see how much interest we have in this one before we decide on a cap although by the looks of it so far it looks like we'll be fine getting at least 100 competitors.

I've posted on WDCR's Yahoo group as well as their Yahoo kart group. I haven't posted on SCCAForums yet but, plan to. I will also post on EvoM and NASIOC as well. Thanks for posting this on Facebook  To anyone else on FB feel free to throw this on there as well.

I likely won't know until that Sunday myself, but this is awsome Adam.
Would we get another opportunity for a trial event?
I can definately see potential advantages of doing this as soon as possible, but I think Mike is on the right track. IF it is to draw well, we'll need to reach out to the diehards in a wide area.

Yeah I agree it may be tough to put together an event with at least 100 people. At the sametime though we want to get the trial event in as soon as possible so that they can make the decision of whether or not to allow us to run there next season. This way we can work them into our Summer Series (and possibly one or two winter series events).

Last year's trial event at CBP was in November and within tight timeline and we were able to put together an awesome, well attended event. Lets do the same for this one

I've already posted this on WDCR's Yahoo group. I've heard back from a few DCers that they are making the trip up :toast: I don't think we'll get enough of them for a rematch though...
