Yep, the "cheater" motor finally blew up, HA! It was running so well before it blew, and when it did you could see the fire shooting out (one of) the hole(s) in the block from the other side of the track (where we were swapping drivers). It was a real shame because it was a real contender for the weekend. Between the speed and the driver strategy, it had a real shot.

Jer, you should have asked the track photog chicky if she got any shots of the fire.

Ha? It wasn't so funny to our team. :( Seeing a raging fire through the holes in the firewall tends to make one a little anxious to "get away". I was happy to be able to get out in a fairly quick fashion.

Here is the oil pan with gazillions of parts:

The HA was for the "cheater" motor - Not. It was not funny for any of us and I did not mean to imply that at all. We have a great team, split tho they may be between cars, and I think we proved what teamwork really is on Sunday.

And we were all yelling for you to get away MUCH faster than you were. We could tell you wanted to open that hood...

I got out as fast as I could! When you're helmeted, gloved, and have that *beep* neck protection on, it's really difficult to find the harness release!! Not to mention the radio plugin. But yeah, I knew it was grenaded, but I was still hopeful we could fix it and really wanted to see what happened. I've never seen so much damage in a motor (I'm a noob to blowing up motors). There's precious little salvagable from that one. Cams? Valve covers? That might be it. The head, block, crank, all pistons and rods, even the valves are shot. I'm losing confidence in the coROLLa after a roll, blown head, and now this. hmmm Craptation?

teammate tip: the teammate in the car on the other side of the track can't hear you yell "FIRE!".

however, your teammate fueling a car 10 feet way can hear you very clearly.

Lemons sounds like fun. To watch. I would never bother running, even driving, in such a series; I take my racing too seriously. I enjoy succeeding, not making an ass outta myself.

The general problem is that competitive racers think it's "real" racing i.e. build the best car you can to win. You have to think about it the other way - two racers sitting in a bar drinking a lot of beer saying - "I can kick your Porsche's *beep* with an VW Fox." the other racer, not to be outdone "I can beat your VW with a Toyota Corolla and only spend $500 on it." and that continues downhill until you reach the Buick LaSabres and Lincoln Mark VIIIs. It's easy to win with a Miata or E30 and that's why those cars are looked down on. It's just too easy to put a miata together "with spare parts in the back of my spec miata shop by taking a chassis and a tired race engine."

The guys on the Rennlist also have the drivers a little wrong. I'd say that 90% of the people on the track have been W2W before and over 75% have current licenses.

No matter what anyone thinks - we're having a lot of fun...

Please don't get me wrong, I think it looks like fun :toast:

Those guys on Rennlist are a broad spectrum of track junkies and just like any other internet outlet, people speak of what they don't know... I was just pointing to where I got it from and that it had taken on a life of it's own... I thought it was hilarious :burnout:

As for the PitViper thing, I thought you more of a big pussycat

I'm looking forward to screaming by Porsches, Miatas and E30s in a Citation.

Rob-I've convinced Dave that on the back of the car it needs to read "What now, B*tches?"

I used to have an '84 Skylark 2.5L Iron Duke with a 4 speed for a company car when they were new, the Citation is an X-body too, do you have the 4 or 6 cyl? The 4 speed was surprisingly good off the line... it'should be good in the rain.

Its an X-11, so it had the high output V6. The car made 87 laps on it before it seized. Its now taking up space in Jerry's garage. We have a 3.4 out of a 2000 Grand Am that is going in. It will be faster than any Citation has a right to be.
